Tags
A tag is a short word attached to a title, such as 4K, UC or hardsub. Tags can be used to filter, and as rules for poster badges. This page explains where tags come from and which one wins.
On this page
Where tags come from#
| Source | How it gets there | Shown | Filter | Badge rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metadata sources | Read from NFO files, imports and scraping | Item page | Yes | Yes |
| Your own edits | Added in the item editor | Item page | Yes | Yes |
| Recognition plugins | Read from the file name, such as a hard-coded subtitle mark | In the item editor, under From the file name | Yes | Yes |
Recognition by file name is name recognition and needs PRO. A recognition plugin can be a third-party one.
Which one wins#
The three kinds are stored separately and never overwrite each other:
- Tags from metadata sources and tags you added by hand are not touched by recognition.
- Tags from recognition are saved on their own. Each time an item is recognized, the whole set is replaced by the new result, so a tag that the plugin no longer returns goes away. They cannot be removed by hand in the item editor.
- A badge rule or a filter looks at all three together, ignoring case.
Items that are already matched do not have their recognition tags updated automatically at the moment. This will change in the next version, and this page will be updated.
Badges#
A tag rule can draw a poster badge in third-party players. Several tags can share the same badge text, and it is shown only once.
Plugin authors: the tags a plugin returns can drive badges. See Capabilities.
