Devices and simultaneous streams
Each plan limits how many devices can be used and how many streams can play at the same time. This page explains what counts, what happens at the limit, and how to sign a device out.
What counts as a device#
- Third-party players such as Infuse, SenPlayer: a device counts the moment it signs in.
- The web player: it counts after its first playback. Only browsing, or only using the admin console, does not count. Casting and handing a title to an external player count as playback.
- A device with several accounts signed in is still one device, and the device list shows one row per device with its last use and the members who signed in.
- Devices signed in by a disabled member do not count.
Limits#
| Plan | Devices | Simultaneous streams |
|---|---|---|
| FREE | 6 | 3 |
| PRO | 20 | 8 |
| MAX | Unlimited | Unlimited |
A simultaneous stream is a stream playing right now, including direct streams that were requesting video in the last 90 seconds. Handing a title to another device counts as one stream: the paused one on the first device is not counted twice.
At the limit#
- Devices: the earliest signed-in devices are kept. Later devices are over the limit: they can sign in and browse, but pressing play is blocked with a message. The same applies after a downgrade; the earliest devices keep working.
- Simultaneous streams: a new playback over the limit is refused. Try again after someone else stops.
- These limits are counted on your own server and are not reported to the license service.
Sign a device out#
- Open Members and then the Devices tab. Each row is a device. You can filter by member, player and last used, or group by member.
- Choose Revoke on a device. It is signed out immediately, for every member signed in on it, and must sign in again.
- After you revoke an earlier device, a later device that was over the limit takes its place and works again.
Each member can also sign out their own devices from their personal settings. Every day, devices that have never played anything and have been unused for 30 days are signed out automatically. A device that has played stays until you or the member sign it out, even above the limit (it is only marked over the limit). Watch history is never affected.
Counted and All#
The Devices list (in Members, and in each member's personal settings) has two tabs. Counted is the default: the devices that count toward your plan's limit, plus any that are over it (marked Over the limit). All lists every sign-in. A device that is listed but not counted shows why: Never played (it only browsed or used the admin console) or Member disabled. The number of rows under Counted matches the usage on the License page. The tab you choose stays in the address.
Your current usage and limits are on the License page.
