First-time setup

The first time you open Kryspal Media, a setup wizard walks you through language, the administrator account, the server name, which players to support, metadata, and how to start. This page follows those steps and ends with your first library.

On this page
  1. Open the wizard
  2. The steps
  3. Add your first library
  4. Next

Open the wizard#

Open http://<host>:5797/web/ in a browser. The wizard shows your progress at the top. Each step has Next and Back. Once the administrator account is created, the wizard remembers that setup is not finished. If you close the page, it opens again at the Server step.

If the server already has an administrator (for example you set the first administrator's password when you installed it), the wizard says so and offers Go to sign in. Sign in and continue at "Add your first library" below.

The steps#

  1. Language. Choose the interface language. It applies right away. The administrator account and the server default use it too, and you can change both later.
  2. Admin. Create the administrator account. Enter a name, a password and the password again, then press Create account. This account manages libraries, members and server settings, and you can also sign in with it on players. Keep the password somewhere safe. After too many failed attempts you have to wait a few seconds.
  3. Server. Give the server a name (up to 64 characters). Players list the server by this name, and the web player shows it. You can press Skip and change it later in server settings.
  4. Third-party player compatibility. Choose which third-party players can connect. Whichever you choose, Kryspal's own web player and apps always work. You can change this later under System settings.
    • 3rd-party players for Emby (recommended): Infuse, SenPlayer and others that use the Emby protocol.
    • 3rd-party players for Jellyfin: players that use the Jellyfin protocol.
    • Off: third-party players get no answer.
  5. Metadata. Posters, plots and cast come from TMDB, which needs a free read token. Follow the three steps on the page: sign in to TMDB, request an API key for personal use, then copy the API Read Access Token and paste it under Read access token. Press Check and save. Press Later to skip it; until a metadata source is set up, titles only show their file names.
  6. Start. Choose how to begin.
    • Fresh setup: start by adding your first library.
    • Migrate from Emby / Jellyfin: connect to an existing server and import libraries, members and watch history. You choose Emby or Jellyfin on the migration page. This server needs access to the source server's media folders.

Add your first library#

For a fresh setup:

  1. Open Libraries in the sidebar and press Add library. On the Overview page, Add your first library does the same.
  2. Choose the type and enter the folder path as the container sees it, for example /media/Movies. This is the path inside the container where you mounted your media folder, not the path on the host.
  3. Save. The server scans the folder, and items appear as the scan runs.

For naming rules that help recognition, see File and folder naming. For all library options, see Create and manage libraries.

Next#

  • Add members, so family can sign in on their own players.
  • Connect your player to http://<host>:5797 with a member account.
  • With PRO, turn on automatic backups.
