Plugin center
Metadata sources, images and subtitle sources are plugins. Remote streaming, intro detection and a few other things that come with the server are built-in features. This page shows how to find, install, set up and update them, and what each status means.
On this page
Open the plugin center#
Choose Plugins in the admin sidebar. There are two tabs:
- Installed: what is on your server, each as a card, in two groups. Plugins can be updated and uninstalled one by one. Built-in features are part of the server and can only be turned on or off and set up.
- Marketplace: plugins you can install.
You can search plugins, filter by category (Name recognition, Metadata, Images, People, Subtitles, Media sources, Playback extras, Library upkeep and others), and switch between grouped and card layouts. Only plugins that need attention hides everything that is running normally.
Install, set up and enable#
- These Kryspal plugins come with the server: TMDB, fanart.tv, DLNA, OpenSubtitles, IntroDB and name recognition. You do not download them. Open the plugin and enable it. ASSRT does not come with the server; install it from the Marketplace. Most need settings first (for example the TMDB access token). You can fill them in before enabling.
- Other plugins: find the plugin in Marketplace and press Install. The server downloads and verifies it, starts it and checks that it responds. If any step fails nothing is left half-installed, and the version you had is untouched. After installing, set it up, then enable it.
- Settings are on the plugin's page. They are checked when you press Enable; if the plugin rejects them, the page shows which field is wrong.
- The official catalog. Plugins from Kryspal come from the official catalog at
plugins.kryspal.net, which the server trusts because it is digitally signed. Each plugin has its own version and its own updates, separate from the server's: when a newer compatible version is in the catalog, its card shows an update. - Update: when a newer version is available the card shows Update available. Press Update to the new version.
- Remove update: for a built-in plugin, this removes the downloaded update and goes back to the built-in version. Settings and enabled state are kept.
- Uninstall: stops the plugin and deletes its install folder and settings; you must enter the settings again if you reinstall. A plugin that came with the server can be uninstalled too. It does not come back after a restart; to use it again, install it from the installable list in Marketplace (no network needed).
- Built-in features (Remote streaming, Skip intro and outro, Media info cache, Episode numbering fix, Auto-fill missing info, Preferred artwork language, Subtitle auto-fill) have no Install, Update or Uninstall buttons. They are updated with the server. Open one to turn it on or off and change its settings.
A plugin's page#
Open a plugin to see three tabs: Overview, Settings and Logs. Depending on what the plugin offers, the page also has:
- Checks: buttons that test the settings as filled in now, without saving them (for example a key). A check only shows a result. It takes up to about 30 seconds, only one runs at a time, and the plugin must be enabled. Some checks sit inside one entry of a list and can also be run for every entry.
- Scheduled tasks: the plugin's maintenance tasks, with the last and next run. You can Run now, pause a task or change its schedule. Enabling or saving a plugin never starts a task.
- Local network access: shown when the plugin asks for it (to reach devices or load images from hosts on your network). Turn it on to allow it. It starts no work.
- AI permission: shown when the plugin asks to use AI assist. Allow it there once AI assist is set up under System → AI assist.
Settings groups marked advanced are collapsed. A changed setting is marked, can be restored to its default, and Restore all defaults resets the rest (secret fields stay).
What the statuses mean#
| Status | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Running | Working normally. | Nothing. |
| Idle | Nobody is using it, so its process is resting. It wakes up when needed. | Nothing. |
| Starting, Restarting | On its way up. | Wait a moment. |
| Needs setup | A required field (for example a key) is empty, or the settings were rejected. | Open the plugin settings and fill them in. The page says which field is wrong. |
| License required | This built-in feature needs PRO or MAX. | Get a license, then enable it. Plugins are never locked; see below. |
| Disabled | You turned it off. | Enable it when you need it. |
| Disabled after crashes | It crashed repeatedly and the server switched it off to protect itself. | Read the error, update the plugin if you can, then enable it again. |
| Install needed | The plugin's settings are still on the server, but the plugin itself is not installed (for example a plugin that no longer comes with the server, after an upgrade). | Open the plugin and press Install. It is fetched from the plugin marketplace and your settings are kept. |
| Update required | The plugin was built for an older plugin protocol and does not work with this server. | Update the plugin. |
How it is running#
Each plugin's page has a How it is running section: calls and failures in the last 24 hours, the time of the last success, the quota a subtitle service has left, and numbers specific to the plugin (for example the archive size of Media info cache). These numbers reset when the server restarts.
Each plugin has a Concurrency limit, the number of requests it handles at once (the plugin suggests a value and administrators can change it on the plugin page). If a service rate-limits a plugin, the server pauses calls to it and shows when it will resume.
Plan needed by Kryspal’s plugins and built-in features#
| Plugin or built-in feature | Plan |
|---|---|
| TMDB, fanart.tv, strm playback | FREE |
| OpenSubtitles, ASSRT (subtitle search and download), Subtitle auto-fill | PRO · MAX |
| IntroDB (community intro data), Skip intro and outro | PRO · MAX |
| Metadata recognition boost | PRO · MAX |
| Media info cache, Preferred artwork language, Episode numbering fix, Auto-fill missing info | PRO · MAX |
| StrmTool | PRO · MAX |
A plan is needed for a paid feature, not for a plugin. You can always install, set up and enable a plugin; it never gets locked. When a plugin offers a paid feature and you do not have the plan, its card and page say “This feature needs PRO to take effect”, and the feature is simply not used. For example, without PRO the Metadata recognition boost plugin can be turned on, but name recognition does nothing: scraping still works with basic parsing of file names. Only the built-in features above are locked. See the Plugins page for what each one does.
